Will Zaha Hadid Architects Change Its Name?
Patrik Schumacher wins court ruling allowing the firm to renegotiate its licensing deal with the Zaha Hadid Foundation.
Dear PA reader,
Patrik Schumacher has recently secured a significant legal victory in the U.K., allowing Zaha Hadid Architects to renegotiate its long-standing licensing agreement with the Zaha Hadid Foundation over the use of the late founder’s name. Beyond the legal developments, Schumacher continues to shape the theoretical and professional trajectory of the practice. As computational design becomes central to leading global studios, Schumacher reflects on these shifts in PA Talks 65, while the enduring legacy of Zaha Hadid’s design philosophy remains a touchstone for architects exploring new forms, technologies, and spatial possibilities.
The firm has also recently proposed what could become Africa’s largest airport near Bishoftu in Ethiopia, while in China the Qiantang Bay Central Water Axis envisions a vast civic landscape structured around water and public life. Projects such as the Greater Bay Area Sports Center in Guangdong and the NICFC tower in Taipei further demonstrate how ZHA continues to translate parametric design principles into large-scale urban and infrastructural landmarks.
