Unlocking Inclusivity: The power of universal design

As designers, how do we determine the success of a design beyond its visual appeal?

Hello!

In this Monday's newsletter, we have a few updates from last week. The Beijing City Library, designed by Snohetta, has recently opened, and it features the world's largest climatized reading space and China's largest load-bearing glass system.

Additionally, Caroline Ghosn, the first BIPOC female Temple lead artist, has designed the main installation for this year's Burning Man festival, which is one of the most anticipated festivals.

Furthermore, this weekend we have a workshop called "Environment-Reactive Computation (with Ladybug)” which aims to develop quick sketch designs using methods that can be infinitely scalable via list structure. Then, we will apply our approach to a sizable theoretical building with surrounding context to create a system that can adapt to environmental and other contextual factors like program and panel height. This workshop is free for Digital Members.

Let's dive into the newsletter!

Unlocking Inclusivity: The power of universal design

As designers, we often find ourselves challenged with measurement questions, with one of the most distinguishable being: how do we determine the success of a design beyond its visual appeal?

The life and inspiring works of Arata Isozaki

Arata Isozaki is a renowned Japanese architect, urban designer, and architectural philosopher born in 1931 in Oita, Japan. He studied architecture at the University of Tokyo under Professor Kenzo Tange, and worked with him on significant projects until 1963. Isozaki gained recognition in the field of architecture and most of his early works were commissioned and built in Oita.

Overview of generative architecture and its methodology

Architects are like drivers who sometimes let Google Maps or Waze lead the way so they can focus on driving. They work with computer-generative design tools to navigate and perfect the details of any project by allowing themselves, along with contractors and engineers, to center their attention on the bigger picture and the overall success of buildings.

📢 This Weekend: Environment-Reactive Computation (with Ladybug)

This workshop called “Environment-Reactive Computation (with Ladybug)” aims to develop quick sketch designs that use methods that can be infinitely scalable via list structure, then apply our approach to a sizable theoretical building with surrounding context to create a system that can adapt to environmental and other contextual factors like program and panel height.
