Rotterdam’s New Climate Landmark
Five finalists revealed for Rotterdam’s new sustainability landmark project
Dear PA reader,
Five architecture teams including MVRDV, Heatherwick Studio, and Mecanoo have been shortlisted to design a new sustainability-focused landmark in Rotterdam’s emerging Waterkant district, marking the next phase in the city’s ambitious waterfront regeneration. In South Korea, Heatherwick Studio has unveiled Daegyo Apartments, a residential proposal that rethinks high-density living through sculpted terraces and a more human-scaled urban presence.
Meanwhile, the W Awards have recognized architect Barbara Buser and Lubaina Himid for their contributions to culture, sustainability, and the broader discourse surrounding the built environment. In Iran, historic Golestan Palace reportedly suffered damage during recent airstrikes, while Dubai’s iconic Burj Al Arab also faced exterior damage in a separate incident.
