We recently had a great conversation with Patrik Schumacher, the principal architect of Zaha Hadid Architects, and discussed his approach to parametricism, parametric design, computational tools, artificial intelligence, education, and the future of architecture.

Schumacher's academic background includes studying Philosophy and Mathematics at the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Bonn, followed by architecture studies at the University of Stuttgart and London Southbank University. He joined ZHA in the late 1990s, and his first major project was the Vitra Firestation with Zaha Hadid.

Aside from his practical work, Schumacher has also been involved in teaching. In 1993, he started his teaching career at Kingston University and later founded the Design Research Laboratory (AADRL) at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London with Brett Steele.

Patrik Schumacher is well known for his association with "parametricism." In 2008, he introduced a manifesto for "parametricism" at the Venice Biennale of Architecture and published an article titled "Parametricism: A New Global Style for Architecture and Urban Design."
