This upcoming workshop by Cas Esbach is designed to harness AI technologies effectively while remaining in control of the creative process. Through two targeted, hands-on sessions, participants will explore how AI can be thoughtfully integrated to enhance the creative design process. The focus will be on practical application—using AI as an extension of the designer’s toolkit without losing sight of core architectural principles.

What You’ll Learn:

Effective AI prompting strategies.
Image-to-image transformations for iterative design.
Utilizing ControlNet for enhanced control in AI outputs.
Refining AI-generated designs in Photoshop.
A brief introduction to Runway ML (This is a paid service, so the workshop will cover it briefly. Free alternatives will also be mentioned).
 Text-to-image generation using Stable Diffusion.
Basics of image-to-video workflows.
Exploring Prompt Travel for creative transitions and animations.
Best practices for presenting and communicating AI-driven designs to clients and professors.

Methodology:

In this workshop, participants will learn to integrate AI tools like Stable Diffusion into their design workflows, covering text-to-image, image-to-image, and video generation, along with advanced techniques like ControlNet and LoRA training. The focus will be on practical, real-world applications, refining AI designs in Photoshop, and effectively communicating AI innovations to clients and professors. By the end, attendees will have a clear, actionable framework for enhancing creativity and efficiency in their design process.

About:  

Cas Esbach is a project leader and architect at MVRDV’s Rotterdam Office. With a rich professional background that includes positions at Derksen|Windt in Delft, Civic Projects in Chicago, and BIG in New York, Cas has been an integral part of the MVRDV team in Rotterdam for over five years. Cas prioritises efficiency, pushing boundaries, forward-thinking methods, and research-driven conceptual thinking in his work.

Valley

Named the best new skyscraper in the world at the 2021 Emporis Skyscraper Awards, stands out in Amsterdam’s Zuidas with its three towers, dramatic design, plant-covered exterior, and accessible green valley connecting offices, shops, apartments, and cultural spaces.

Shenzhen Terraces

Shenzhen Terraces, located in Universiade New Town, will be a sustainable, vibrant hub with accessible stacked plates housing a theatre, library, museum, conference centre, and retail, designed to maximize public life and interaction on shaded terraces.

Flores Tower Façade

MVRDV, in collaboration with Arttenders and artist Alex Verhaest, designed a vibrant glass façade for the Flores Tower, inspired by the arboretum at Floriade Expo 2022, featuring a digital composition of 1,800 plant and tree images.

Taipei Twin Towers

Taipei Twin Towers will transform the central station area into a vibrant, Times Square-like destination, with a vertical urban neighborhood and interactive media façades showcasing its diverse program.
