Cities, Culture, and Future Design
Architecture continues redefining how global cities evolve and inspire
Dear PA Reader,
Architecture today is blending storytelling, culture, and urban transformation in powerful new ways. From the stunning locations that inspired Disney movies to the rise of new capital cities built on empty land, design is shaping identity through architecture and planning. In Baku, the conclusion of WUF13 reinforced a global call for urban action, while the city’s layered architectural history continues to reveal a compelling mix of heritage and contemporary innovation.
Nature-driven architecture is also gaining momentum through projects rooted in sustainability and ecology. Witoca Lab integrates adobe vaults and agroecology to create a naturally regulated Amazon interior that responds to climate and environment. Meanwhile, Foster + Partners unveiled the petal-shaped Jia Art Gallery in Shanghai, while THE PARK by K11 in Ningbo wraps the city in striking metallic shingles, creating a futuristic urban presence through material experimentation and sculptural design.
Major infrastructure projects are equally reshaping contemporary cities. The Penn Station overhaul continues advancing with a selected development team, signaling a transformative moment for urban mobility and public space.
