Art Center Rising from Wuhan’s Wetlands

Chenhu Wetland Art Center celebrates Wuhan’s aquatic landscape shaped by the Yangtze and Han rivers.

Dear PA reader,

Architecture and landscape converge in several recent projects where design grows directly from its surroundings. In Wuhan, the Chenhu Wetland Art Center by Trace Architecture Office rises quietly from marshland terrain, framing culture within a fragile ecological setting. High in the mountains, Shigeru Ban proposes a Timber Concert Hall in the Swiss Alps, using engineered wood to echo the warmth and scale of the alpine landscape. Meanwhile, the Volcano-In Hotel of Arrivals by PLAT ASIA embeds hospitality architecture across the ancient volcanic steppe of Inner Mongolia, transforming dormant craters and rugged terrain into an immersive architectural destination.

Elsewhere, waterfront masterplans and eco-tourism landscapes continue to explore how architecture can respond to water, terrain, and coastal environments. Zaha Hadid Architects unveils the Qiantang Bay Central Water Axis in Hangzhou, a sweeping riverfront corridor that connects public space, ecology, and urban life, while its coastal retreat Vertex by NOT A HOTEL introduces sculptural hospitality along Okinawa’s shoreline. Bamboo structures shape the eco-tourism setting of LuxeIsland Farm by Various Associates, and Snøhetta reimagines Drammen’s riverfront civic landscape while designing the Hangzhou Art Museum to mirror the rhythm of the Qiantang tide. Nearby, a glass walkway by Archermit stretches high above a canyon in Tibet, turning a dramatic crossing into an architectural encounter with nature.

3D-Printed Wall Systems

This workshop focuses on the design of bespoke, production-ready interior wall systems. Participants will investigate how a simple 2D concept can be translated into a fully articulated 3D textured surface through algorithmic logic. The workshop is scheduled for April 18 & 19, 2026.

Parametric Pavilion Design: From Concept to Fabrication

This workshop explores bottom-up design-to-fabrication workflows in Rhino and Grasshopper for pavilion-scale structures. The workshop is scheduled for May 9 & 10, 2026.
