AI Crafts: AI and Design Tools in Focus 🎯

Your essential weekly update on the fusion of artificial intelligence and architecture, curated by PA.

Hellos!

It's Thursday evening here in Istanbul, and I'd like to share some insights on AI and new updates with you. This week, I'd like to share some of the new tools I've been exploring and invite you to share any tools you've been working on as well. ✨

One of the most exciting tools I've recently tried is Google Earth Studio. Actually, it’s not an AI tool. But it's currently the most advanced animation tool for accessing Google's satellite images, and you can even access half of the world in 3D, which is pretty cool. 🌎

We're currently seeing important changes and the emergence of cool software for design. Especially exciting improvements in AI-generated tools. For example, have you tried Luma AI's new tool, Genie AI? It's a great tool for making cool 3D models that you can use in Houdini or Cinema 4D.

Although I'm a big fan of traditional digital design tools like Adobe Illustrator, I also love using Midjourney or DALLE to inspire my design work. These tools show how to recreate our dream spaces and improve our ideas. ⚡

And, we've recently had some great workshops on AI with Tim Fu and Cas Esbach. Last weekend, we even had a free event with Cas on optimizing design methodology through Midjourney and Stable Diffusion in the creative process. You can watch it here on our YouTube channel.

I don’t worry that the designers are using AI the wrong way; I worry if the designers are not using AI at all. I think architects have the responsibility to interrogate and evolve in the face of new technologies.

This week’s must-reads:

If you haven't seen it yet, we're working on a new series called "Explained." Our latest video is about "What is AI?". It's a great introduction to AI and its applications.🎥

Finally, we'd like to invite you to an upcoming workshop with Filippo Nassetti on "Body Architecture 3.0." He will introduce and explore design workflows that combine computational design and artificial intelligence, connecting various software and applications, including Rhino Grasshopper, SideFX Houdini, MakeHuman, Midjourney AI, and RunwayML. See you there!

Have a fantastic week!

Best,
Serra
